Treatment at CMH was wonderful and was exactly what I needed. Everyone was so caring and amazing. I felt like I was in a safe and trusted environment, surrounded by people who wanted to help me. I came to them when I was at my lowest and left a stronger person with the therapy and tools I needed. If you really need help and are ready to focus on getting better, then you should reach out to them and find out more.

My loved one spent 6 weeks in this program. This is the longest he has ever spent in a residential program. He experiences organic mental health issues and is a young adult. I was very concerned that the program was not dedicated to strictly age 18-25 because the programs for adults have been more on the older side (30+) and this is one of the reasons why he didn’t stay. However this program had a good array of clients from age to gender to race to experiences and I believe this really made a big difference. Also the care team was very focused on meeting my loved one where they stood. There is also family programming ongoing and this also had a very important impact on the recovery process. The resident was very nice and comfortable and a nice home away from home. We were able to visit on weekends and have good times just enjoying each other’s company. The restrictions were not extreme and the staff were all accommodating to all of our needs. The care program including therapist and the case manager were readily available to review status weekly. I was able to communicate with my loved one and the care team members by requesting family meetings. My loved one and I were the heads of the care team and this allowed us to input goals and aspirations regarding the recovery process. I continue to stay in touch with other family members who have loved ones in treatment centers around the country by way of a special weekly family care zoom meeting that allows us to learn more about dealing with struggling loved ones and to listen to and relate to others who are also going through this. It’s a very good program and I highly recommend it. My loved one is now in a PHP residential and will hopefully move on from there to more independent living thanks mostly to CAMHT program and the stepping stone they provided to a life well lived. Thank you to everyone at CAMHT and we miss you!

The housemates I have had over my time here have been amazing and supportive. It’s clean quiet and homey. I got to bring my dog and Daniela one of the staff brought her treats almost every night she worked. Rosemary would walk her in the mornings on the occasion I would be in the shower and she wanted out or if I was in therapy Areli taught her how to do rounds and would babysit it her when I would go to an AA meeting. She is going to miss all the extra love as well as I will miss everyone staff and housemates. Elly has taught me so much about how to use coping skills for my anxiety. My favorite are name it to tame it. Walk forward the storm and opposite action. I feel have come along way towards finding my new normal thanks to all the staff at Marie Ct. California Mental Health is amazing

Our son was in the 45 day program in San Martin. When he first arrived, he was withdrawn and closed off to receiving help. Thanks to the supportive staff, by the time he was discharged he had become open to treatment and relationships with staff and peers. We highly recommend California Mental Health for individuals with mental health challenges.

Had a really wonderful experience here, the staff are all amazing, and the program really helped me with my recovery. They do a lot of outings and fun activities, so you’re never just stuck in the house, and they encourage self care and taking time for yourself just as much as they encourage going to groups. Everything is always optional of course. Highly recommend this place, I know I won’t be going anywhere else if I ever need mental health help in the future

What Is Sound Bath Therapy?

Sound bath therapy in California refers to a guided, lying-down listening experience in which a facilitator plays resonant instruments while a participant rests with their eyes closed. Rather than talking through a specific concern or following a series of physical movements, you will remain still and listen as sounds fill the space. The experience is structured around listening, resting, and focusing one’s attention.

Our center believes in the effectiveness of the Holistic Approach – a sound bath for sleep and anxiety sits alongside clinical treatment rather than replacing it. These sessions can complement the therapeutic work included within the What We Treat programs, giving our patients another structured way to unwind and participate in their care.

Sound bath sessions are offered in-house at our San Martin residence – patients can participate without leaving the setting where they receive their residential care. At California Mental Health, we incorporate this holistic treatment into the residential experience – session attendance and frequency are determined according to each client’s clinical needs.

If painful memories or distress ever feel overwhelming, or you have thoughts of harming yourself, help is available at any hour. Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or call 911 in an emergency.

Sound Bath Therapy Benefits

Sound healing therapy is supposed to help you slow down and let your attention settle without forcing you to analyze every single feeling you experience. Tones and vibrations will allow you to listen, breathe, and ground yourself in the present moment – here are the main advantages our residents mention frequently:

Settle your nervous system

you will notice your body releasing some of its tension and cope with anxiety that makes you feel on edge.

Ease into rest and sleep

a sound bath is perfect for someone unable to decompress and struggling with insomnia.

Lower your stress levels

step away from racing thoughts and day-to-day duties by giving yourself permission to do nothing.

Make space for emotion without words

you do not have to justify or label your authentic feelings as you sit with the sounds.

Practice present-moment attention

do not worry about yesterday or tomorrow by focusing on the sound as it rises, changes, and fades.

Experience shared calm

spend time with other people without the need to talk to overcome isolation in a quiet atmosphere.

Why Choose Sound Bath Therapy?

A sound bath may appeal to you if you did not resonate with meditation before or you cannot settle by talking through everything. Instead of asking you to concentrate in complete silence, this holistic treatment will provide you with sustained tones, vibrations, and guided cues to follow. It is different from listening to music or picking random songs to improve your mood and concentration – the experience is intentional, facilitated, and shared in person so that you can pause and unwind.

Sound bath therapy can complement the skills you practice in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) sessions – this is one more setting where you can slow down and overcome debilitating negativity. It takes place within a 24/7 stabilization environment – clinical staff is available 24/7. You may also try Yoga Therapy or Equine Therapy – gentle movement will help you release physical tension while interaction with horses will improve your emotional awareness and trust.

Who Is Sound Bath Therapy For?

Sound bath therapy is often recommended to individuals suffering from insomnia, anxiety, and PTSD – the lying-down listening experience offers an alternative to verbal therapy for patients who find it difficult to talk through distress or need to recharge before counseling sessions.

At California Mental Health, sound baths complement clinical care within a home-like, pet-friendly residential setting. The sessions enhance the effectiveness of other therapeutic practices and clinical support.

How Stress Can Show Up What It Might Feel Like How Sound Bath Helps
Body Tight jaw, muscle tension, rapid breathing, racing heartbeat, stomach discomfort Slow, resonant tones will help your body settle into a comfortable state
Mind Repetitive thoughts, constant worry, inability to concentrate Focus on the sounds instead of letting your thoughts overwhelm you
Sleep Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, waking up earlier than intended, unrefreshing sleep Transition from daytime stimulation into rest when stress keeps you awake
Daily life Social withdrawal, losing patience, avoiding commitments Reset to be able to return to everyday responsibilities

Connection to Your Care Plan

You will have a personalized treatment strategy – if the experience brings up painful memories or other meaningful reactions, you may explore them in Individual Therapy sessions.

Ongoing Sessions

Regular sound therapy for stress will give you numerous opportunities to see how your responses change over time – every session offers space for reflection.

Sound Bath Therapy Techniques

A sound bath for anxiety can incorporate several instruments and practices – each one of them creates a different sensory experience. Your facilitator may utilize these elements during a session as well as try other practices listed on our Therapy Options hub.

Sound Bath Therapy FAQs

What Is a Sound Bath and How Does It Work?

A sound bath is a guided, lying-down listening experience in which a facilitator plays resonant instruments such as singing bowls, gongs, and tuning forks while you rest with your eyes closed. The sustained tones give your attention a steady anchor that supports slower breathing and present-moment awareness, which is why it fits naturally within the holistic approach to care at California Mental Health.

Is Sound Bath Therapy a Replacement for Talk Therapy or Medication?

No – sound bath sessions complement clinical treatment rather than replace it. They run alongside your one-on-one individual therapy sessions and the round-the-clock clinical support of a licensed nurse and clinical staff, with attendance and frequency set by your personalized care plan.

Can Sound Bath Therapy Help With Anxiety or Trouble Sleeping?

Yes – these are two of the most common reasons residents are referred to sound bath sessions. The slow, resonant tones help a tense body settle, which is why the practice pairs well with anxiety treatment, and the transition from daytime stimulation into rest can support clients working through insomnia.

What Should I Wear or Bring to a Sound Bath Session?

Nothing special – sessions take place on-site at our San Martin residence, so comfortable clothing you can lie down and stretch in is all you need. Our trauma-informed care approach means you decide how you participate and can step out at any time, and you can preview the setting with a tour of our facility.

Is Sound Bath Therapy Offered Through California Mental Health's Virtual Programs?

No – sound bath therapy is an in-person practice offered only within residential treatment at our San Martin center. Clients who step down to the virtual intensive outpatient program or other virtual mental health treatment continue individual and group therapy by secure live video, but sound bath sessions are not part of virtual care.
